Unlikely friends - Connemara pony mare and two llamas

Our Connemara pony, Savannah, has been an ideal pasture- and paddock-friend for our two, young male llamas, Blanco and Primary Colors. As the boys grew old enough to be separated from the herd of female llamas, we also needed to separate Savannah from our her pasture mates because she has different dietary needs. It has worked out splendidly to have Savannah live with Blanco and Colors. I typically like to keep our llamas in separate fields or paddocks from the ponies, but Savannah's very easy going disposition gave us this option of housing them together.

I just love to walk in the barn in the morning and see the three of them hanging out together in the barn aisle or paddock. The boys are now comfortable enough with Savannah that they will kush near her or even in the box stall with her while she is staying out of the sun or flies. It is hard to describe just how sweet these moments are, but to me, they are just very, very special. Each one of our animals has a different personality and offers something unique to the herd and to the family. When there is rare opportunity to bring species together and to watch them interact with each other and work together (and even share feed pans politely), it feels like a wonderful privilege.
